I'M A HOOT OWL

written by Alexander Wright (SESAC) Monkee Room Music & Marvin Etzioni (Peermusic©2013.

I’m coming and I’m bringing good news

Gliding over the hills, straight to you

Can’t you see, look up to the sky Just

a flicker of light in the corner of your eye

I’m a hoot owl, I’m a hoot owl,
I’m a hoot owl, I’m a hoot owl,
I’m a hoot owl, I’m a hoot owl

When it gets so dark and you can’t believe
I’m in your heart I’m in the trees

Come with me, I’ll lift you up

All I need is your love

I’m a hoot owl, I’m a hoot owl,

I’m a hoot owl I’m a hoot owl,

I’m a hoot owl, I’m a hoot owl

Darkness darkness, take your time

Darkness darkness, please be kind

I’m a hoot owl

I hear the words, from a hole in the sky
You deserve the world tonight

I’m coming and I’m bringing good news Gliding over the hills, straight to you

I’m a hoot owl, I’m a hoot owl,

I’m a hoot owl I’m a hoot owl,

I’m a hoot owl, I’m a hoot owl

SHE’S SO STEADY

Written by Alexander Wright (Sesac / Monkey room music) and Marvin Etzioni (Sesac – Fire Monkey Music) administered by Peertunes LTD. ©2014.

She’s so steady as she goes
I’m not ready to be alone
Early morning Before the dawn
She stands outside my door
by evening gone

But this time when she leaves
She’ll meet the world
For the time is right,
the wind is good
She’s got everything she needs,
She’s so steady,
She’s steady as she goes

It won’t be easy when she leaves me I’ll be missing her sweet harmony
I hear her voice on a summer night  Singing sweet, singing right

But this time when she leaves
She’ll meet the world
For the time is right, the wind is good She’s got everything she needs,
She’s so steady,
She’s steady as she goes

WATERMAN TOWN
written by Alexander Wright

(Sesac – Monkey Room Music) ©2015.

Waterman town, waterman town,
everybody lives in Waterman town
Get to the boat in the middle of the night,
Get yer foul weather gear
to fight the good fight

In waterman town

Waterman town waterman town,
everybody knows this is waterman town
Fish in the blood and mud on my mind
Got to stay on top of that bottom line

In Waterman town

Salt water runs in the family, run a trot line down to the bottom of the bay
I‘m a Christian man but I don’t give a damn   About what you think who I am
In Waterman town

Drive the same old truck 44 years, four on the wheel and 3 forward gears
Head hits the pillow when the sun goes down, everybody sleeping
in waterman town

In Waterman town

Got a skipjack boat and log canoe, pick a bushel of crabs and oysters too
Sail on down to Rock Hall bay
Watch the sun go down, shuck em all day
In  waterman town

Lots a good people on the Chesapeake Bay, man in the bank‘ll take it all away
Run off the fields turn the water brown
Load on the shoulder keep
a good man down

In waterman town

POSTHOLE DIGGER

written by Alexander Wright (SESAC)

Monkee Room Music ©2001.

His eyes burn the color of the land He walks the walk of a wounded man Come root n stone, rock or clay
He digs and he digs twenty holes a day He's a posthole digger with a digger in his hand

He's a posthole digger with
a digger in his hand

He builds his fence both
straight and true
Cause that's what he
was hired to do

Someone's always buying his time Longs for a dollar, only gets a dime

He's a posthole digger
with a digger in his hand
He's a posthole digger
with a digger in his hand

Take an ironwood tree
and you whittle it down

Dig a little hole, stick it in the ground Wood and Steel, Wood and Steel,  Turn that land into a field
He's a posthole digger
with a digger in his hand

After forty five years of laying out fenceIt all lines up,
but it don't make sense

When he picked up his digger and he stuck it in the ground

His heart broke in two and he fell right down He's a posthole digger with a digger in his hand
He's a posthole digger
with a digger in his hand
Take an ironwood tree and you whittle it down

Dig a little hole, stick it in the ground Wood and steel wood and steel Turn that land into a field He's a posthole digger with a digger in his

They buried his body in a potter's field Tween the tangled roots of an Ironwood tree They took that man and whittled him down

Dug a little hole, stuck him
in the ground
He's a posthole digger
with a digger in his hand
He's a posthole digger
with a digger in his hand

PENNIES ON THE SHORE

written by Alexander Wright (SESAC)

Monkee Room Music ©2014.

If I had a thousand wishes

I’d give them all to you

Throw my pennies in the water every one a wish for you

Till the sun sets for the last time
and the river runs no more
I will walk upon the sandy grain
and look for pennies on the shore

I count it my good fortune

to be with you tonight

I will give you all the sno-cones

for your personal delight

I will wrap you in a blanket

made of softest llama wool

When we walk upon the sandy grains and look for
pennies on the shore

I can see my days before me

in the waves of golden grain

In rolling fields of velvet

spun with loving threads of rain
And my prayers fly on white
wings to heavens open door

When we walk upon the sandy grain and look for pennies on the shore

When we walk upon the sandy grain and look for pennies on the shore

Pennies on the shore
Pennies on the shore
Pennies on the shore

TAKE YOUR HANDS
OFF MY LAND
written by Alexander Wright

(Sesac – Monkey Room Music) ©2014.

I paid hard for my freedom
Give me naught but what is due
When the rain falls on the fields of sorghum
Put no tax on my revenue

I put food upon your table
I give it away if ya can not pay
I feed the poor and unable
I’ll get mine some other way

Take your hands off my land

Got no corn in my silo

Compassions well has run bone dry
No feed, no shoes for tomorrow
I’m hanging low, the end is nigh

Take your hands off my land
Take your hands off my land

Put no burden on the farmer
Feed your war from another hand
My blood is not your rainbow

Take your hands off my land

My blood is not your rainbow
Take your hands off my land

THE BEAST

written by Alexander Wright (SESAC)

Monkee Room Music ©2015.

This train is a ribbon of steel
This train got a cutting wheel Running wild through
the mountain wind
To the Northern fields
and back again

It’s a long, long way to
the promised land
Gonna ride the Beast
as long as I can

Lost my child, Lost my wife  Gotta make my way to another life
Lost my faith, But I got my hands Won’t let those wheels
kill another man

It’s a long, long way to
the promised land
Gonna ride the Beast
as long as I can

This train is a ribbon of steel
This train got a cutting wheel
Coal black smoke keeps rolling along Cross the river, into the dawn

I’ve come a long, long way to the promise land Gonna ride the Beast as long as I can

LAST WINTER

written by Alexander Wright (SESAC)

Monkee Room Music ©2014.

Last winter was so cold and so beautiful I still feel it in my bones
The ashes from the fire inside piled high inside my home

I watched the trees grow brittle, winters’ breath on every limb
The breaking branches thunder
sang the nights’ sweet hymn

last winter, last winter,
last winter,
last winter

In the days when light was short and silver dipped into the sky
The flash of memories lightning pierced the walls and left me blind
I searched through dusty corners for the stones I left unturned
For distant acts of kindness
floating free and unreturned

last winter, last winter,
last winter, last winter

The light of softer days
brings hope into the yard
As dreams come easy and the mornings come hard
I never thought it was the last one,
I never thought it was .....I never thought it was the last one
last winter ,.. last winter

The ice comes in, the sky growls low, I’ll never make it to the spring Resolution disappears when the larders they grow thin
Last Winter was the master of the years unyielding pace
False starts and empty ledgers trampled dignity and grace
last winter, last winter
last winter, last winter

NOTHING BUT TIME

Written by Alexander Wright (Sesac – Monkey Room Music) ©2015.

Rollin down a window, gonna spend my dime
Going down so slow, gonna take what’s mine
Running for the roses, gonna cross that line
Got Nothing to lose,

Nothing but time, Nothing but time

Somebody stop me, somebody give me a sign Somebody tell me, It’ll work out fine I’m out on a limb with nowhere to climb
Got Nothing to lose,

Nothing but time, Nothing but time

I give all that you want, all I can bring
For a lining of silver to make your heart sing Waiting for the clock and
that one diamond ring
Don’t leave me hanging
by one gossamer string

World turns around , spins on a dime
While I walk the plank to the bottom of the mine I’ll lift you up, I’ll make you shine
I Got Nothing to lose, Nothing but time Nothing but time  Nothing but time

PARCHMAN PRISON CLAY
written by Alexander Wright (Sesac – Monkey Room Music) ©2014.

Ain't no road out of Parchman Ten year,
six month and a day Judge said son till
your time is done You'll be diggin,
diggin Parchman prison clay

Evening dust lies low on the road I see those trees as bright as day Old snake water with nowhere to go I'm still diggin', diggin' Parchman prison clay

These days won't ever end Just don't know how long I can stayI feel that reaper comin' round the bend I'm still diggin', diggin'
Parchman prison clay

I need a little help from the angel on the road Iǯm ready to go, so take me away No more to see in this land below Better start diggin, diggin Parchman prison clay diggin
Parchman prison clay
diggin Parchman prison clay
